The Moon IS a woman...

The Moon is a woman!
So again Mark and I got to talking and he made a simple comment about the moon.
He stated, “The moon has SO many different moods or personalities…sometimes its full and other times it’s barely showing!”
It got me thinking about an old song that She-Daisy song…talking about a woman with multiple personalities and I said, “the moon must be a woman!”
We got to chatting about that and here’s what we came up with:
She, the moon, comes out every night so she’s strong and consistent, but you have to be careful because she’s always in a different form…a 28day cycle.  She shines but not too bright…not like that sun.
Yes this means the sun is a MAN!
He’s always trying to be bigger…he’s always shining unless he’s grumpy or hung over (hiding behind the clouds)…You can’t look right at him or he’ll blind you!  He’s always trying to OUT-shine the moon or showing-off for the moon!
But you go back to the moon and she tends to stay out during the day here and there…keeping watch over the man/sun and sometimes she just never goes away…this HAS to be when the sun’s done something wrong and she’s NOT about to leave him alone…kind of a punishment…standing guard watching over him.
Most of the time there’s harmony…the sun comes up and does his thing, then leaves while the moon sneaks into place and looks beautifully over all the little stars…
SO…what do YOU think?
I think I’m a lot like the moon…Mark’s super much like the sun!! Ha!!

Continued...take 2 of Sunday Driving North

...Continued:
THIS IS ME...driving through the LIVE tree....YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you see the kids hanging out of the car...mom's cooler then dad and lets the kids hang out the windows to try to touch the tree as we drive though it!!  SWEET!! ha!

Ella yells, "Look, a cart from the older days!"

Another HUGE tree...

OK…so now it was time to grab some lunch and then head on down to the Glass Sands Beach, in Ft. Bragg, CA.  This was going to take us south (on the way back home) but it also puts us back on highway 1 which is that same highway Grissom threw his cookies!
But this time I was the one driving…lets just say Mark taught me a few new things about driving a stick shift…I had to again stay in 2nd or 3rd gear just to keep the car slow enough to take all these curves!  Holy Stress!!  I do better telling Mark to slow down and be careful, etc!  Mark even took video of how crazy curvy this scenic route was.
We looked and we looked and we looked for ANY place to stop for lunch…nothing…and my cell phone went back and forth between having a signal and not so we weren’t even able to search for a place to eat…so we licked the inside of the Frito bag (after eating the rest of course)…and just prayed we’d find something before the kids dies of starvation!!
But God DID show us something miraculous…see the roads are SO curve that they have ‘pull-offs’ for the slower drivers to allow passing.  We stopped at one just because it was also a pull-off for the view type side…it was gorgeous!  We saw another small black sand beach.  As I was headed back to the car after taking a few pictures I saw water shooting up in the air far off into the distance in the ocean.  I grabbed the family AND my close up camera lens and there it was…a HUGE whale!!  She was out in the middle having a ball…we are pretty sure there were others out there, but she’s the only one who consistently used her blow hole!  It was SO fun to show the kids and watch it.  I have pictures but I’m not sure you can see her as well as we could!
I can go home now…my last desire out here was to see a real whale without paying for it…I wanted to see one JUST like we got to!  But the fun part was that she was heading down the coast line pretty much at the same time we were.  So we’d spot her from several others pull-off spots!  How cool…THANK YOU GOD for that!!

The other Black Sand Beach Find...

THE WHALE!!

AHHHHH...Beautiful!!

AHHH...MORE Beauty!!
More Whale...

Just a super cool rock...
our road ahead...

Wouldn't this be the coolest house to live in?

 Again...I love trees...

We got to Ft. Bragg by about 3-3:30 P.M. still no lunch…luckily we found a Subway…I’ve never seen kids eat SO fast!  We ate and the kids were awesome cause they were all ready to go and see the glass sands!  I assumed they’d be done by now…or super bored, but no way…they were pumped!  So we parked and started down the path…we passed the Government property and saw at least 4-5 squirrels just hanging out on the fence…look at this pic:

We almost lost the kids in the wild blackberry bushes we had to pass by to get to the ocean!  Grissom, remembering the picking we’ve done, kept saying, “Top!!  See these yummies!! Top!!” (top means STOP btw).  Once we pulled him past the berries we caught sight of this part of the ocean…and HOW beautiful it was as well!!  We had to search a little but someone else told us to look for the rocky places and don’t be fooled by the ‘rocks.’  And sure enough as we looked closer at the rocks and shells we saw the glass EVERYWHERE!  All you had to do was sit somewhere and dig in the sand a little.  We found clear, green, orange, red, blue, and purple pieces of glass.  And they were so soft and rounded.  Nothing was sharp.  It was so cool!
Ella was into the search BIG time…in fact after we left she complained that she didn’t get to play any.  We told her that was because she wouldn’t stop searching…we’d warned her that if she didn’t stop she’d miss out on the playing, but who listens to mom and dad?!
We were there searching until about 5p.m. we didn’t search the entire time…Keegan and Grissom climbed every rock there and we explored a little as well!

Look closely!

So we took off and started our 4.5 hr. drive home.  Not 20 minutes into this journey we hear Ella saying things and Keegan copying her.  Frustration was taking over and Ella yells, “Mom…Keegan’s MIM-A-CATING me…again!” then you hear Keegan, “Mom…Keegan’s mim-a-cating me again!!”  It was SO funny.  I just looked at them and told Keegan to cut it out and I explained to Ella that it’s not called mim-a-cating…it’s called mimicking!  Ella got so tickled at herself and the new words that we all just stopped and giggled together!  I have to admit…I have to REALLY work hard to think now before using the word mimicking…cause I wanna say mim-a-cating too! Ha!
Scary...I know!

Then to add to the craziness…a good 30 minutes later Ella screams, “Grissom…NO…Dad…Mom…it’s broke…G-R-I-S-S-O-M!!”  After the screaming dyed down we found out that Grissom slammed the door of the DVD player shut…he did it SO hard that it broke the corner off and wouldn’t play unless Mark held it shut!  After a second of mommy’s quick thinking I pulled my hair band off and Mark was able to use that to keep the door shut…SO the kids got to watch CARS over and over and over again!  Yeah!  They only watched it 1.5 times.
We stopped at a Berger King and because of the coupons I’d grabbed (my Nana would be SO proud!) as we ran out the door we ate like real KINGS for only $13.00.  It was like 7 p.m. and we were super hungry!  Everyone had a huge burger, fries, drinks, chicken nuggets, AND apple pies!!  We used 3 different coupons to get this Thanksgiving feast!  YES!!  After dinner we took a nice 10 minutes to unpack the back and pull out jammies then RE-pack the back so it would be easier to unload when we got home.  We were about 45 minutes north of San Francisco, so I napped until we got there.
See we had a little issue on the way up in San Francisco.  I missed my exit and ended up having to pay $10 in tolls AND we added a nice 45 minutes to this drive.  I wasn’t stressed but it was frustrating!  So Mark wasn’t so sure he wanted to take on the highways there while I slept…we needed teamwork!  We seriously navagated through 9 different interstates in approxamitely 8 minutes!!  Talk abotu stress...it made St. Louis look like a walk in the park!  SO the plan was for him to wake me (gently!) when we got there…I got a huge slap on the leg and he yelled, “Get-up!!  We’re there…help me!”  I jumped SO high I thought I was flying!  It freaked me out…I love HOW gentle and loving he can be!
We had tons of time to chat the rest of this drive home…we got to talking about our time in Humboldt and I’d made a funny.  I said, “So instead of a Bonfire like the rest of the world has…they have BONG-fires!!”  hahahahahahahaha…get it!!  Cause they ALL smoke Marijuana?!?!  I crack me up!!  Go on…you know you want to laugh!
A BONG-fire! Ha!
Mark only had to stop 2 times to go potty while me, the prego one didn’t have to stop until we got home…and we’d drank the same amounts!  But it was nice to get to stop and just look up at the sky and see just how big it really is and how FULL of stars it really can be!  Indiana is SO lacking in amazing stars…at least it is when you have this sky to compare it to…amazing!
As we passed through San Francisco I saw the COOLEST exit.  It was called A Street!  I got to thinking about that and laughing SO hard that I almost couldn’t stop to tell Mark my thoughts!  By the time I’d gained enough control to tell him he’d gotten to laughing at me that we had to wait even longer to explain it!  Once we both calmed down (I do think slap-happy could have been a part of this) I told him I could just imagine how this street got its name…and here’s the story I had in my head:
Just think there were a few guys having a ‘BONG-fire’ up in Humboldt and these guys had won a contest which allowed them to name a road in San Fran!!  So they are hanging out trying to come up with a good one.  But as they sat around their fire talking and throwing out names things mellowed out a bit and one guy, Frank says, “No guys…I got it…man, it’s the perfect name…how about we call it ‘A STREET!’  Get it…cause it’s a street, man…yeah, peace…that’s rocks!”  And then they all just hung out laughing and saying A STREET over and over again!
I mean can’t you just imagine?
 HOW FUNNY!!
 A Street!
Someone HAD to be smoking something to have come up with such a name!!  Again we cracked up forever…later we passed Y Road…and I simply said…”Y road…not interstate!”  I got it and laughed but I had to explain once again to Mark…man, things ALWAYS seem funnier IN my head…it’s when they jump out without permission that I get in trouble!  I was pretending to be an Indian…I mean Native American!!  Now it’s funny, right? Ha!
Anyway, needless to say, we had a GREAT weekend!  Full of travel, fast food, heartburn, love, and laughter!!  It can’t get better then that!  It makes me feel very VERY sad inside to think about leaving my honey here soon…so I’m trying not to think about it and just keep laughing WITH him!  It’s SO nice to see him laugh…it’s been such a long time it seems!

Sunday of our Traveling North...Glass Sands

So we had a beautiful warm breakfast at the hotel…Keegan was a little sad that the hotel room itself didn’t sport any snacks (snack bar) but he loved our little tiny fridge esp. after we placed the left over carrots and hummus in it!  He thought those were the room snacks…he said, “They just don’t have the candy here…just carrots!”
After breakfast we loaded up the bug and took off.  We decided to take our time and head north for a few miles to drive through 1 of 2 famous trees!  I noticed an old billboard and read it out loud, “Your Ad Here”  without thinking I said, “10+2 that’s my add..hahahaha, I’m SO funny!”  But for some reason I truly thought I was saying this in my head…Mark looked over at me as if I were an alien!  He was clueless…but now that I said it out loud I had to explain it to him and instead of everyone thinking I’m AS funny as I think…they all laughed at me and how my brain works!  I need to practice talking to myself IN my head! Ha! Mark says THIS is why he loves me SO!!
This is where we took pictures with Bigfoot, driving through the tree, the tree houses, and a few more!  So we were ready to leave, and Grissom blessed us with a dirty diaper, before I knew what was going on Mark had taken him to the car and started changing him in the front seat (the same seat I was sitting in…thanks my love!) Anyway, Mark was also trying to multi-task and get the other kids in the car and buckled ready to go…all of a sudden something must have bitten him cause he was in a HUGE rush to exit this cool place.  But he didn’t think before he yelled, “Kids…get in this car now!”  See what he didn’t think about was the fact that he was totally blocking the way to the back seat with the diaper change…without thinking Keegan jumps HEAD first into the car through Mark’s driver side window…but what was funny was the lightening speed he did it in…the kids had his tush in his seat before you really even knew what he did!  I start cracking up cause I knew what was going to happen next.  Mark was MAD…he looks at Keegan and raising his voice slightly he asked, “Why did you just do that son?”  Keegan so innocently looked him in the eye and raising his hand while shrugging as if to say, DUH, he replies, “Dad…I had no other way to get into the car like you said!”  Mark very firmly told him never to do that again.  As he backed out of the passenger seat and out of sight from Keegan he looked at me, we both laughed and Mark said…I ALWAYS wanted to do that as a kid!!
It just made us all stop and laugh for a bit!
We are all standing like Big Foot...
Daddy too...

Next up...THE BIG TREE...

looking up from inside as we drove through...

HOW COOL!!

Gris laying on Lama fur...super soft!

So much into posing for pictures now...

Now that we’d driven through a huge dead tree we thought we’d head south to drive though a huge LIVE tree…so off we headed south to Leggett, CA.  We decided to take the scenic route and were SO glad we did…it was beautiful…I know I say that ALL the time, but I’m SO serious…I LOVE trees!!  I might even be willing to hug one before we come home!
Here are those pics:
I got to drive through this one…so now the count is Mark=driving though 2 trees, and me=just 1…BUT mine was the ONLY live tree…GO ME!

I'm having Computer problems...so I'll try to make this 1 of 2 posts...so...this is TO BE CONTINUED...

Our Northern Weekend Adventure...

This last weekend was our last BIG-trip hooray!!  Mark claimed it as‘training’ for the kids and the big trip home…they REALLY rock with these car rides.  In fact this trip was their idea.  We told them what we’d found but totally left it up to them on whether or not we went.  Ella only had to ask one question, “Will we get to stay in a hotel room?”  Then Keegan piped in with, “Those rooms are the ones with the little snacks in them? Oh, yeah…I’m in!”  and that was that…now to plan our route.
About a week prior Mark was talking to a few of the new guys who have joined the 3 boys here (Mike, Mark, and Greg) to help with the work.  These guys came up from L.A. and on their way up they passed a black sand beach.  So Mark became interested in where these were and he wanted to go exploring.  These guys said it was south on Highway 1.  I wasn’t super excited to get back on the road Grissom lost his cookies on just to find some sand that’s black…but I looked into it anyway.  I found that California actually has 2-3 of the most incredible beaches in the world.  They not only have Black sands, but purple, white, and glass sand beaches!  I found that if we went north about 6 hours we’ll find the black sands on what's called The Lost Coast of Shelter Cove as well as what’s called the glass sands (after years of dumping glass into the ocean (which is where it was tossed from the dump) it now gets washed up onto the beach in this same place…so this beach was full of it!  I also learned that Carmel was a white sands beach and Ft. Ord was considered a rock sand beach, AND south just past Big Sir they have a purple sand beach!!  So we decided to collect little bits of these beaches and take them home as a forever memory of California and our travels out here.
This also gave us a reason to explore the Northern shore!  We were just south of Eureka, which means “I found it!” and this city was the city that started it all back in 1849 when gold was first discovered here which led to a mad dash for gold!  This also put us about 2-3 hours south of Oregon.
We decided to take the slug bug cause we could get away with a very cheap long travel.  Mark set up the DVD player and I packed VERY lightly for an over-night stay somewhere.  As we were driving we saw a huge herd of Elk just hanging out in the fields.  We wish now that we would have stopped to take pictures but we didn’t, but they were neat to see!!
We saw towns that looked as if time had stopped.  No wonder California is full of hippys…there’s really no serious civilization in these towns.  We went miles and miles without seeing a single gas station or a restaurant we were familiar with.  I know that sounds funny but stop and think…when was the last time you drove somewhere and didn’t see a restaurant you didn’t recognize or even a gas station?  We stayed in a nice Best Western in a town called Humboldt which was just north of Garberville.  Garberville wasn’t much of a town, but Humboldt was a cute little town.  Besides the Best Western Plus Humboldt House Inn and a Subway there was nothing else that was well known outside of this town.
And from the exit off the interstate up until we left and got back onto the interstate there were hippyies EVERYWHERE!  I don’t mean to offend anyone by calling them hippies I just don’t know of any other way to refer to people dressed in tie dye and skirts with backpacks and very long dreads sitting along the side of the road or in circles in the grass playing their guitars while their dogs play around them while they sport the peace sign as you drive past!  So for now I shall refer to these folks as hippies.  They truly were everywhere we counted 23 in this small town.
We also learned that anything with ‘Skunk’ in its name REALLY means marijuana, and that too seemed to be the thing around here as well.  We check into the hotel and the guy confirmed our plans to the Black sand beach.  He said it was very curvy and would take us an hour.  So we gathered the best dinner we could find (lunchables) and took off for a little fun in the sun and then a beautiful sunset.  We started off by missing our first big turn…starting off strong, you know the Wortley Way!  But as we did we passed BIGFOOT!!  Not the real one but the same place that is seen in a few movies that refer to the Bigfoot! – here’s our pic!!

We got onto the road we really wanted and low and behold there were a few more hippy’s hanging by the road.  They loved seeing our entire family stuffed into the Bug!  They gave us peace signs, smiles with head nods obviously approving of our fuel efficient vehicle and carpooling!   Then just minutes after passing them we noticed a sign up in the hills with a woman HUGGING a tree and the sign said, “Save the Redwoods!”  We got to laughing SO hard!
Next we almost literally ran into a small herd of wild turkeys hanging out around the fire station which was just a little house.  We had about 25 miles until we reached the beach but it took us a nice hour to navigate through this super 'out in the middle of nowhere' road.  This road would have made even my father-in-law’s stomach turn!  We decided to play it safe and roll down the windows and enjoy the cooler wind as we drove 20-25 miles an hour.  The funny thing was as SOON as our windows came down Archie Bunker made an appearance from both Mark and I at the same time saying, “Smells like the great outdoors!!”  Then we laughed and thought of MY dad!
Mark did a great job with this road…there were several “U-turns” I’m talking 180* or more turns with a grade of like 15% (at least that was Mark’s guess) he seriously stayed in first gear and still had problems keeping us slowed enough to get through the turns at the edge.  But it was a very successful and gorgeous drive.  I love driving through the trees and seeing the fog glisten in the rays of sun light that escape through the leaves!  It made me think of heaven.
We made it to the parking lot and crazy as it seems there were two cars that made it obvious that the 2 gals and 2 guys driving them were also living out of them…and there they were again…hippies just hanging out reading and playing ball with their dog.  But these guys weren’t as nice as the others we’d come into contact with.  We grabbed our beach bag and dinner and headed down the trail to this black sands beach.  It was breathtakingly beautiful.  But the thing was it wasn’t true sand, it was mostly super soft rocks…big small and tiny.  We did find an area with sand like dirt and collected some of that but it was just cool.
Keegan picked our dinner spot right on top of this huge rock in the midst of the beach!  It was easy to climb up one side and pretty much cliffed on the other…it was a nice 40 feet high so Grissom had to have a hold of either Mark or I the entire time.  We inhaled our huge dinner of lunchables and chips and were ready to explore.  We didn’t have much time until sunset.
The waves were violent so of course there was no swimming.  But it was super cool to hear the waves pop against the rocks.  It sounded like a bomb going off, crazy!  We walked along the beach and just had a great time exploring and finding new things.  The rocks had many caves in them…some of which had human “left-over’s.”  It got to the point that we couldn’t let the kids go into any of them for fear they’d come out with human #2…SICK!!
We had a photo shoot compliments of Ella, and Daddy had some fun as well.  Then we watched the sun set…We thanked God for such beautifulness!!  We started heading back to the car and passed a hippy couple.  As I walked up the gal said hi then asked if we knew the date for today.  I told her it was the 18th, then her friend, the guy looking and sounding very dazed and confused asked, “Do you happen to know what day it is?”  I gave him a funny look and said, it’s Saturday…I sure wish I could go through life not knowing the day!”  He smiled and we headed on to our car while they headed to the beach to find a place to sleep.  Mark said that before we got up there they were trying to figure out what month we were in!  I do have a bit (a tiny piece) inside envious that they seriously go through life one day at a time without a plan and just go with the flow, but then I think about ALL the things I wouldn’t have if I lived that way…aka my kids and I’m good with the choices we’ve made in life!
We made it back to the car just using the flashlight app cause it got too dark to see anything.
As we headed back the way we came we were more prepared to handle these curves but now we’ve added the dark!  And mist here and there!  At least we were hoping that most of it was mist…cause it sure didn’t smell like it.  I have to think it’s just us and the places we happen to go at the times we tend to go through…it’s truly hard for me to think THAT many folks smoke marijuana THAT much…we smelled it at least ½ of our hour drive back if not more.  We got to the point where we HAD to roll up our windows because it got so bad in places.  But we got to see a beautiful deer eating on the side of the road…then out of nowhere we see this raccoon run out, Mark swerved and missed it until that stupid thing did a zigzag move RIGHT under the car!  STINK!!  It seriously was a suicidal raccoon…I think he’d been high and had NO clue what he was doing…poor little guy!  I had to be proud of Mark cause he DID try not to hit the thing (unlike on our 2nd date when I swear he swerved TO hit the cat in which he killed! To this day we still “discuss” this date night challenge!).
We were also celebrating the fact that I actually let him get a steel or metal skid plate to replace the silly plastic one under his bug.  This was something I think Scott recommended (which is prolly why I said ok to it?!?) And because we had JUST gotten it installed on Friday this little raccoon didn’t hurt the oil thing or any other low riding part in the bug…after all it only sits like 5 inches off the ground!
We got back to the hotel room and got the kids in their jammies as fast as possible.  We were super tired and ready for peace and quiet.  I laid Grissom down on their bed and pulled from his pant legs to pull his pants off…can you say holy beach came falling out of everywhere!  His folded pant legs and all 4 pockets…that little stinker was stuffing his pockets with the beach!  Then I took off his sweatshirt and more come pouring out of his pockets along with a hot wheel he’d found on the floor of the car!  It was SO funny!!  I kid you not there was a nice 2-3 inch tall pile of these tiny rocks!  We all again got to laughing so hard that mommy wet her pants!  SO…after the kids were tucked in mommy took one HOT shower!
But before I did Mark and I got to talking and I totally admitted to him that my stomach was seriously about to EAT the child being formed inside of me unless we find some REAL food!  I wasn’t interested in chips or candy or even chocolate.  I had heartburn enough from the fast food we’d shoved into our bodies all day…I needed REAL food!  I think Mark was feeling the same way he just wouldn’t admit it, but he was super willing to find me something good to eat.  He called room service but they’d JUST closed…so he completely (almost too willingly) volunteered to ‘go out there’ and get me something good!  So I got into the shower and he went scavenging for food!  He didn’t have to go very far but he did almost come home empty handed cause he snuck in as they were closing!  He went across the street to the town Market…seriously it was called, The Town Market and came home with some food.
Now I got out of the shower JUST in time for him to come back.  Now YOU tell ME who the hungry one was:  He puts the brown paper bag on the table and pulls out a whole rack of RIBS (I don’t like ribs…and he knows this LOUD and clear cause my mom’s favorite thing to make when Mark’s around is ribs cause no one else really will eat them with her and dad!) ok…he then pulls out what I thought was beer…I about lost it thinking I can’t touch this!  But it turned out to be an Indian’s natural and purest Ginger Ale (which ROCKED), then he pulls out humus and carrots.  Now, let me explain: I’ve had humus twice, both times with crackers and I have to tell you they aren’t my favorite.  But I didn’t want to hurt his feelings…so we ate RIBS and carrots with a little humus on them drinking Ginger Ale!  What a dinner!!  It tasted SO good just because I knew he went out of his way to jump into the town Market JUST as they were closing to grab me some REAL food!  How sweet!!  What I won’t tell you is that I had to use 4 pillows and practically sleep sitting straight up all night because this didn’t help my heartburn any!  Note to self: don’t forget your PRILOSEC when going on an over-night trip while being pregnant!!
On our way north...in San Fran...
This was the bridge that was crushed in the earthquake about like 20 years ago...they work on this constantly!!  Kind of crazy!

I just thought this was cool...this is a pile of Redwood trees in a lumberyard...

Just a cool pic...
 THE FAMOUS BIGFOOT STOP!!
This is just 1 of the millions of curves we ventrue on to get to the black sands...serious U-turn!

If you look to the lower right you can see the white line from the road ahead!!

A peak at the black sands!
